How will you know if you have a clogged vent? In just a simple way! Clogged vent normally exist when you noticed that your plumbing fixtures drain slowly. It happens when vents are placed improperly and when the animals especially birds leave debris in the vent where it exist the roof.
1. Normally, vent is composed of plastic or metal pipe that measures 3-4 inches in diameter and extends for about 1-2 feet above the roof surface and generally above the bathroom. So you should set up a ladder to access the roof below the vent.
2. Have a roof ladder installed in your house so that you can work with the vent. This will allow you to avoid damage in the roof and most of all it will allow you to work safely.
3. Put a light down the vent pipe so you can check for leaves, or any other debris that you should remove.
4. Place a garden hose in the vent and turn on the water. Listen for the water flashing down and wait for the sudden sound of weight broken down when the force of water passed through it. You can also feed the garden hose down the vent just like what we are doing in the plumber’s snake.
